Frequently Asked Questions

What does end to end encryption mean?
Your photos are encrypted on the device before they are uploaded. This means: only people with the correct key (i.e. the respective parents) can decrypt and view the images. Neither we nor any third party has access to the content.
Do parents need an app or an account?
No. Parents receive a one time secure QR code or link for their child. They use it to open the photos directly in the browser, no app installation or registration required.
How does the QR code per child work?
When each child is registered, a unique QR code is automatically generated. This is shared with the parents once (e.g. at the enrollment meeting).
Is zeitkapsl truly GDPR compliant?
Yes. Our servers are located in Germany and data never leaves the EU. Thanks to end to end encryption, we do not store any personal image data in plain text. zeitkapsl is developed in Austria and is subject to European data protection law.
What happens if we no longer want to use zeitkapsl?
You can cancel zeitkapsl at any time. After the subscription expires, all data will be fully and in compliance with GDPR deleted within the statutory periods. You will receive timely notification so you can export your data beforehand.
Can parents also upload photos themselves?
Yes. Parents can add their own photos to their child's album via the link or QR code, without needing an account. This creates a shared album of kindergarten and family moments.
How much does zeitkapsl cost for our kindergarten?
The price is €5 net per child per year, with no setup costs or minimum contract period. For a kindergarten with 25 children, that's €125 net per year.
How does uploading work?
Photos are uploaded and backed up automatically. Optionally, you can also upload manually if you don't want all photos backed up automatically. Each child has their own album (created automatically at the start). Photos can easily be added to albums in the app or browser.
