Every zeitkapsl plan gives you the same product: full end-to-end encrypted backup, sharing, search, and face recognition on every platform. Plans differ only in
- how much storage you get
- how many member accounts can share that storage

Free 30-day trial
New accounts can start a free 30-day trial, and no payment details are required.
When you register, you reach a screen to choose a plan. Instead of picking a paid plan, choose Start free 30 day trial, and your trial begins right away.
What you get:
- 30 days free, with all features unlocked, exactly like a paid plan.
- 10 GB of private, encrypted storage to explore with.
You can upgrade to a paid plan at any point during the trial. If you do not, the trial simply expires: 30 days after it starts, your account and all its data are automatically deleted. So if you want to keep your library, upgrade before the trial ends. We send a reminder as the end approaches.
21-day money-back guarantee
Once you subscribe to a paid plan, you can withdraw from your contract within 21 days of its start for a full refund. In the web app, open Settings → Withdraw from contract. Withdrawal schedules immediate account cancellation independently of the refund; ordinary cancellation instead takes effect at the end of the paid period without a refund. Renewals and plan changes do not restart the 21-day period.

Member accounts
The larger plans let several people share one subscription's storage under one invoice. Only the storage quota is shared, nothing else, so each member keeps their own private, separately encrypted library. See subscription sharing for how to invite members, and family sharing if you instead want to share the actual photos.
Choosing a plan
A rough rule of thumb: photos average around 5 MB each, so 50 GB holds on the order of 10,000 photos, and video uses roughly 4 GB per hour of high-quality footage. Your real numbers depend on your camera and how much video you keep. The app always shows your exact usage in settings.
You are never locked in. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time, and switching plans keeps all your media in place.
Monthly or yearly
Every plan can be billed monthly or yearly. Yearly billing is cheaper than paying twelve months individually, so it is the better choice if you plan to stay for the long run. You can switch between monthly and yearly whenever you like from your billing settings.
