Search by text

Search finds text that appears inside your photos, not just their descriptions or filenames. Your device reads the words in a picture, a technique called OCR (optical character recognition, the same idea as your phone letting you copy text out of a photo), and makes them searchable.

A few things this is useful for:

  • Recipe strawberry cake, finds a photographed recipe card mentioning strawberry cake, even if you never typed a description.
  • A street or shop name you photographed while traveling, so you can find your way back later.
  • The total or vendor name on a receipt you snapped for reimbursement.
  • A book or product title visible on the cover in a photo.

This runs entirely on your device, the text and the photo stay end-to-end encrypted.
