Editing photos

The web app includes a built-in editor for quick adjustments. Open a photo in the viewer and click the pencil icon to start editing.

The editor is available on the web app. On mobile, edit with your device's own photo tools and export the result to your photo library/a folder that is enabled for backup to back them up to zeitkapsl.

The editor lets you:

• Rotate the photo left or right in 90-degree steps.
• Flip the photo horizontally.
• Crop to a freeform selection or a fixed aspect ratio.
• Reset to undo your changes and return to the original before saving.

Saving keeps your original

When you save, the edited version is added as a new item, and your original photo is kept untouched. Nothing is edited in place.

This is intentional. Your originals are the whole point of a backup, so an edit should never quietly overwrite the file you wanted to preserve. If you decide you prefer the original, it is still there. If you no longer want it, you can delete it yourself.

All editing happens on your device, and the new version is encrypted before it is uploaded, exactly like your other photos.
